For my cat I wanted to make them a little floaty, and I wanted them to have a walking speed that gradually increases to a running speed and clamps at the end.  I added a smooth camera follow, and put a lot of time into the animations, retweaking them a lot, timing wise and making the jumping animation since it did not have one.  Honestly retweaking all settings with the gravity and the timing of the jump and the animation was a lot of my time. 

I unfortunatly had to restart my project because I wanted to do a 3D 2D platform and ran into too many problems. Giving me less time for this. I plan to add more ( like particles when landing and jumping, a little drag when turning  etc. ) because even though I like how it feels I know it can feel even better!
